Mother tongue

A child's mother tongue is the language they first thought in. The research consensus is not really contested: concepts learned in the language a child already commands transfer to later languages, and concepts learned in a language they do not yet command often do not get learned at all. This is why NEP 2020 presses for the mother tongue as the medium wherever possible through the early years.

For almost every child here, the mother tongue is Bengali. It is spoken freely in our classrooms and it is never corrected out of a child.
