Child-centred learning starts from what the child in front of you already knows and wants to know, rather than from a page that has to be got through by Friday. It does not mean a classroom with no plan, and it does not mean a child does only what they feel like. It means the plan bends to the child more often than the child bends to the plan.
This is the first thing a low ratio buys. Ten children to one teacher and one assistant is what makes bending the plan possible at all.
