The teacher-child ratio is the number of children each adult in the room is responsible for. It is the least glamorous figure in a prospectus and the one that governs the rest of it. Whether a teacher can notice a quiet child, follow a tangent, sit with a crying one or write an honest note home on Friday is largely a function of how many others are waiting.
Ten children, one teacher, one assistant. That number does not change when more admissions come in, and it is published rather than asked for.
